Interview with a pub chef
What happens during
the normal day of a chef, who works for a typical English pub? Kelly had time
to answer a few questions about her job. She is 36 years old and a mother of
two boys and a girl.
Kelly’s main task is to cook for customers
and afterwards tidy up the kitchen. She told us that she loves her job but
sometimes it is a very busy business. Normally she works 30 hours a week, but
it depends on part of the month. At the beginning of the month there are more
customers than at the end, because their wages are paid at the very end of the
month. The pub is very close to her house. It takes her about five minutes to
walk. The school is near as well, so her children have lunch in the pub.
She should have four weeks holidays, but
her boss gives her an extra week every year, because she works very hard and he
knows that she has to organise a big family.

It makes her happy to cook different
meals. She loves making burgers. A customer told us that she makes the best
ones he has ever eaten. We immediately decided to try one of these famous
burgers. They were delicious.
We asked her about her hobbies. After
work, when she gets home, she is very tired. She told us that there is not
enough time to do anything for herself. 3 children are waiting every evening
for their mother.
Despite her love in for job she is looking
for another one, which is less busy. Another reason is that she is thinking
about a fourth kid.
We thanked her for her time, finished our
burgers and then we went out of the pub.
We really enjoyed got to know Kelly. She
is a very tough woman.
