Internet Resources for Teachers

I recommend that while you are doing this, you keep this document open, and open another document where you can copy the addresses of the sites that interest you and a comment on the site.  If you follow links to other sites which interest you, make a note of these addresses and make a comment and share the sites with us when we have a chat at the end.  You should also add your resources to a links page connected to your home page on our site.

Dave Sperling ESL Café.  As he says, “the mother of all sites.”

Young Learners

Enchanted Learning – very big, good site.  You now have to pay for the full site, but there is still a lot of free stuff there.

http://www.enchantedlearning.com/Home.html

The EFL Club – maybe you could use some of the low level activities.

http://www.eflclub.com/

Sites for Older Children

You could do worse than only look at the relevant Google Directory site.  It’s all “authentic” stuff, but there is some good content.

http://directory.google.com/Top/Kids_and_Teens/School_Time/

Yahooligans

http://www.yahooligans.com/

is also well worth  a visit.  The School Bell section is probably the most useful.

The BBCi learning site includes lots of printable resources and is categorised into age groups

http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/

Brain Pop.  Movies on different subjects, some on English language.  Could be slow to load on most machines.  Again, this site now charges, but there is some free material.  Good, clear listenings.

http://www.brainpop.com/

Cyberteens.  Quite a “cool” site.  Kids can post poetry, artwork and stories there.

http://www.cyberteens.com/

Fun Brain.  Kids choose their age group and then get suitable quizzes and games.

http://www.funbrain.com/

Ask Jeeves for Kids allows kids to ask a question and then gives them kids-safe websites where they can find the answers themselves.

The results page for a Google search for esl kids sites (240,000 sites!)

Sites not specifically for younger learners

These sites are especially good for “webquests” and project work.  Have a look at them and think about what you can do.

The best music site – The Ultimate Band List

http://www.ubl.com

Tip.  If you are looking for lyrics, it is best to go to Google and type in, for example, avril lavine lyrics – to get the group or the artist – or i’m a hazard to myself lyrics – to get the lyrics to specific songs.

The best film site – The Internet Movie Database

http://www.imdb.com

You can actually download entire film scripts.  The best site for this is called script-o-rama.  The scripts are usually very big, though, so you may want to print selections, certain pages, etc.

The best travel/geography site

http://www.lonelyplanet.com

Resources chosen by other teachers

And teenagers will definitely enjoy this Radio 1 site:

There is also a Teens page, but it has some links which might not be considered suitable:
